The Yorkshire Peat Partnership successfully supported a stakeholder engagement workshop with Dr. Lucie Middlemiss from the Sustainability Research Unit at Leeds University. The day trip took place at Cray Moss, a National Trust site, the main research question that the day centred around was; What are the tensions and synergies between stakeholders associated with peatland restoration?

Successful YPP monitoring season!

YPP has successfully implemented restoration works monitoring in the Dales and the North York Moors. A volunteer workshop was held at Brimham Rocks in conjunction with Stephen Morley from the National Trust. Over 20 people attended and the day was successful. To date, 3 sites have been monitored by Astrid and Mark with the help of Pete and a dedicated few volunteers.

Two more sites surveyed!

Over the last few weeks the team has completed 2 more pre-restoration surveys in Nidderdale and Wharfedale. The area covered is over 2100 hectares which, in light of recent events, is equivalent to the size of nearly 9 Olympic Parks - if they were on steep hills and had areas of long heather to wade through!

With help from YPP the University of York has begun installing equipment for a large-scale research programme. The research sites include sites in the Yorkshire Dales, Nidderdale and the Forest of Bowland.

Hibernation isn’t an option for YPP! Winter is our busiest season as this is the time of year when, as well as surveying, we appoint
contractors to do the restoration work on sites where surveys have been completed and Restoration Plans have been agreed.
Despite the wind and snow, peatland restoration work has begun on 3 sites over the last few weeks with at least 3 more sites due to have work started on them very soon.

A recent article published in the Guardian website discusses the new report published by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
