Seven short-eared owls were spotted in the same day during a visit to one of our restoration sites. They were spread out over a large area so it definitely wasn't the same owl seen seven times!

A short eared owl was seen by two of our volunteers while they were assisting with a survey in Swaledale. The many voles seen whilst walking across the moors will be a good source of food for these birds.

There have been two sightings of Black Grouse during the surveys in Swaledale. One was seen on the moorland and another was seen in a tree at the edge of the moorland. This is a Red List species that has suffered severe population decline due to loss of habitat. It can be found in the uplands of Wales, Scotland and some areas of the Pennines.
